Evaluations are independent clinical assessments. Outcomes and recommendations are determined by the evaluator, not by the person or agency requesting the evaluation.
What a well-documented evaluation includes
A substance use evaluation is a clinical assessment of a person’s history, current use, risks, and needs. The written report should let a reader see what information was reviewed, how conclusions were reached, and what the evaluator recommends.
Our reports state their scope and purpose, the records and collateral sources used, screening results and how they were interpreted, the evaluator’s clinical impression, a recommended level of care, and any limitations. Reports are written in plain language for courts, probation departments, attorneys, employers, and the individual.
Credentials and Oversight
- Evaluations completed by licensed or certified clinicians (CADC, CAADC, MAC, or equivalent).
- Ongoing continuing education in substance use assessment.
- Clinical Director oversight for consistency and quality control.
- Level-of-care recommendations consistent with ASAM criteria.
- Compliance with applicable state requirements, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2.

How Evaluations Are Conducted
- Evidence-based screening tools: ASI, AUDIT, and DAST-10.

Confirm With Your Referral Source First
The court, probation officer, attorney, employer, or agency that requested the evaluation decides what it will accept. Requirements differ by jurisdiction.

When Substance Testing Is Required
A drug test shows whether certain substances were detected in a specific window. It supports, but does not replace, a clinical evaluation. Testing is required when:
- The clinician considers it appropriate to clarify current substance use status.
- There are concerns about underreporting of use or symptoms of a substance use disorder.
- The case is highly sensitive.
- A client denies any and all use within a certain lookback period.
- The referral source requires it.
Our counselors reserve the right to specify the type of testing (hair, urine, nail, blood, or other methods). Testing may involve additional cost and time.
Evaluation Process & Timing
1) Scheduling
Book online and get matched to a licensed or certified evaluator.
2) Interview
Secure telehealth video session with a structured clinical interview.
3) Additional steps (only if needed)
Substance testing, additional records review, collateral interviews, or special instructions from the referral source.
4) Report
Evaluations are typically completed within 24 to 48 hours when no additional steps are needed. Any of the steps above can extend that timeline.
5) Delivery
Your report is delivered as a PDF by secure email, and can be sent to the referral source with your authorization. DOT SAP evaluations include a follow-up step to confirm completion of recommendations.

What does a DrugEval.com report include?
Each report states the scope and purpose of the evaluation, the records reviewed and any collateral contacts, screening results and how they were interpreted, the evaluator’s clinical impression and recommended level of care consistent with ASAM criteria, and any limitations. A compliance plan is included when the referral source requests one.
Will my court, probation officer, employer or agency accept the evaluation?
The referral source decides what it accepts, and requirements vary by jurisdiction and agency. Please confirm requirements with your court, attorney, probation officer, employer or agency before you book.
