DOT SAP evaluations require a follow-up session after the initial evaluation to ensure that the recommendations have been completed.
What to Expect During the Questionnaire
Starting your drug and alcohol evaluation is an important step in understanding your well-being and making informed choices. Our questionnaire covers aspects like your health, job, legal history, family, and mental health. You can answer these questions at your own pace, but honesty is crucial since this information shapes your evaluation.
Our questionnaire uses industry-recognized assessment questions, trusted by the criminal justice system as the highest standard for evaluating substance use. Click here to learn more about what to expect from the questionnaire.
Just before you submit the questionnaire, you’ll have the chance to send in any documents related to your case that you want the counselor to look at. These could be things like arrest records, substance treatment records, substance education records, or any forms the counselor needs to fill out for your case.
What to Expect During the Video Session with the Counselor
During the video session with the counselor, they’ll discuss important aspects of your situation and delve into your history of substance use. They’ll use standard tools from the field to gauge the severity of any substance use issues. Be ready to discuss any past legal matters, including arrests and their outcomes.
The counselor will also address any questions you have about the form you filled out, ensuring accuracy.
The counselor may discuss your screening tool scores at the end of the video session. However, they won’t share their recommendations during the session. They’ll carefully review all information and conduct additional checks before finalizing the recommendation. You’ll receive the final recommendation in the typed report after the session.
What to Expect After the Evaluation
After your follow-up video session with one of our experienced counselors, you’ll receive a detailed evaluation report. It will be approximately 9 pages long and cover why you’re being evaluated, your substance use history, any legal matters, and other important information.
Towards the end of the report, we’ll provide our assessment of whether there’s a substance use disorder based on the guidelines from the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5). Using these criteria, we’ll suggest the best plan for education or treatment, if necessary.
This document will be sent to you via a secure, encrypted email. You can then download and save it for your records and share it with anyone who needs it, such as a probation officer, attorney, or other parties involved in your evaluation process.
DOT SAP clients only: After receiving your recommendation from the counselor, it will be your responsibility to fulfill the requirement before scheduling a subsequent session with our counselor. During this session, the counselor will ensure that you have completed the recommendation before granting clearance for retesting with your employer.
